AWS Welding Summit

The American Welding Society held their annual conference in Houston TX. Attended by several hundred welding company executives, welders, educators and suppliers of the industry, they gathered to discuss industry needs, risks and trends. As a part of those discussions, the Center of Excellence presented on how a NGS being developed by the AWS Foundation with TA from the COE could be a useful tool in reducing the projected shortage of 336,000 welders over the next 5-10 years. The presentation was led by Scott Ellsworth of FASTPORT and Cynthia Walker representing Safal included an overview of how RA benefits employers and apprentices, what the AWS Foundation is doing to support the industry and how RA helps employers tap into the youth market through YA.

Participants joined us for this session to explore RTI and how to build partnerships for effective RTI.  This webinar was aimed at educating workforce development board and One Stop Operator staff.

They encouraged participants to get involved and start talking with their own local workforce development boards to best support registered apprenticeship.
