U.S. Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) have introduced the American Apprenticeship Act, which the lawmakers maintain seeks to expand apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship access.

Apprenticeship is the most time-tested method of effective workforce development. However, in 2017 only FOUR local Adult Basic Education programs in the U.S. self-reported as having an RA program. Center staff shared findings of a recent national Registered Apprenticeship assessment survey of the education and workforce system as well as national labor market and apprenticeship trends presenting opportunities for ABE programs to accelerate student preparedness for - and success in - high quality career pathways.

Call for Workforce Board Best Practices in Registered Apprenticeship

The Center was seeking best practices by workforce boards on Registered Apprenticeship implementation. If selected, submissions were disseminated nationally to help create scale for RA adoption through better alignment and integration with public workforce funding through WIOA. The inaugural awards were announced at the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) Annual Conference in May 2022.
